A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MODERN LIBERAL MOVEMENT

More important, they promote themselves to membership in a self-selecting elite of those who care deeply about such things... It's a kind of natural aristocracy, and the wonderful thing about this aristocracy is that you don't have to be brave, smart, strong, or even lucky to join it, you just have to be liberal."

Thomas Jefferson was a liberal. However, that is where the comparison ends with the modern liberal. Jefferson believed in each man�s (and woman�s) inalienable right to decide and pursue his/her own goals and style of living. He said as much in the Declaration of Independence and the work he did on creating the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights that established that government is the tool and servant of the People.

Modern liberalism had its birth in the Soviet Union. The Comintern (Communist International, also known as the Third International) was an international Communist organization founded in Moscow in March 1919. The International intended to fight "by all available means, including armed force, for the overthrow of the international bourgeoisie and for the creation of an international Soviet republic as a transition stage to the complete abolition of the State."

The primary target of this organization was the United States. The Soviet leadership knew that communism would never be accepted or allowed to thrive in the United States as it is counter to democracy, self determination, and individual freedom to chose. In order to disguise and deceive, the Comintern adopted the word �liberal� to define their intentions and philosophy. Even to this day, liberal is a euphemism for socialist and/or Marxist.

That many of those who term themselves to be liberals, do not know the history of the modern liberal movement is not surprising nor does it go counter to the original intent of the Comintern. Redistribution of wealth, a key ingredient of Marxism is being preached today by Barack Obama and endorsed by the leadership of the Democrat Party. That the Democrat Party is a socialist political organization is not too well known by many of the electorate and the rest of the citizens of the United States. However, a cursory examination of their proposals and actions in the Congress and Executive branch, under a Democrat President beginning with Franklin D. Roosevelt, will delineate the socialist agenda that pervades their every initiative.

Big government; high taxes; cradle to grave programs; minimization of the individual�s rights; onerous gun control to remove guns from the hands of free and law abiding citizens; legislated brotherhood; school integration/busing; the dumbing-down of America; promotion of unions over the rights of business owners; weakening of the public education system to prevent independent and intelligent thinking and decision making; open borders to promote cheap labor and weaken the life style of the American worker; amnesty for illegals and expedited citizenship to further strengthen the base of the Democrat Party; refusal to allow programs that would actively and successfully achieve energy independence; and anything that contributes to the destruction of the Middle Class.

All of these and more are in evidence in the current Democrat dominated Congress and in the Clinton administration of the 1990�s. Barrack Obama, the current darling of the left and the Democrats, is promoting the continuation and expansion of this agenda. They call him �Messiah� because he portends the advent of a socialist government and the destruction of our democratic republic.

The USSR failed and fell into oblivion but, the modern liberal movement, that it founded, lives on abetted by the ignorance and indifference of the American people. Unless we awaken from our long somnolent state and take action to remove Democrats and their candidates from office in the November 2008 elections, the situation will get much worse and this nation will weaken and crumble. This is not hysteria, it is a fact based upon recent history and current agendas of the left. Believe and act; or perish. Those are your only choices.
